We haven’t really explored the West Seattle restaurant scene much, I am not sure why though. It is not that long a drive from Belltown, but somehow we never think about this neighborhood while trying to pick a place for dinner. Spring Hill has been on my radar for a while, but I keep forgetting about it when it comes to decision time. But last month on my birthday Siv made reservations there after reading some great reviews about the place and wow, I am really glad he did.
The first ...

When I heard that Herbfarm ex-chef Jerry Traunfeld started his own restaurant in Seattle, that got added to my must-try-restaurants list. Then I got to know that Jerry got his inspiration for Poppy’s menu from the Indian Thali, that took Poppy right up to the top of that list! An Indian thali is a variety of dishes usually served in small bowls on a round tray. Poppy is not an Indian restaurant, they say that the menu borrows the idea of the thali to present Jerry’s own style of cooking, ...

You all must be tired of reading about my birthday by now. It really wasn’t a never ending birthday as some of you thought. Since my birthday is my favorite day of the year, I have been talking about it for a while, so I can see why you would think that. But the celebrations lasted for barely two days, a dinner with friends the night before, and dinner with Siv the birthday night. So I promise, this is the last time you will hear me mention my birthday till ...

I don’t believe in second chances; especially when it comes to restaurants. Once I’ve had a bad experience at a restaurant, it is very rare that I’d go back to that place again. With so many choices around, why should I? But there are exceptions to any rule, we finally had a great night at Zoe on our third try, glad I broke the rule on this one.
My first visit to Zoe was with a group of friends on a girls’ night out two years ago. About 10 of us showed ...

I still haven’t made my mind up as to which one I like better, Harvest Vine or Crush, we have been to both places many times, in fact we normally think of going to Harvest Vine, but if the place is too crowded, end up at Crush. That would make you think that Harvest Vine is our first choice, but the only reason it ends up that way is because ...

I’ve been writing reviews only if the food or the experience is really good or really bad. Etta’s is somewhere in the middle, not much to complain about, but nothing to write home about either! I know it is a Seattle favorite, but I’ve been thinking lately that it might just be the hype -Tom Douglas owns the place, so it must be good, right?
Well, don’t get me wrong, food ...

FareStart is one of those restaurants where you can eat without feeling guilty that the money you spend on food can feed a small district in Africa. Why? Because every penny you spend here helps someone start a new life. They are a non-profit organization that teaches homeless and other disadvantaged the necessary job and life skills to find a job in the food service industry.
The FareStart adult program is an intensive training program combining over 16-weeks of hands-on food-service training with classroom instruction, individual case management and job placement ...

Living in the middle of Belltown, we always get confused about which bar to pick on any given night, too many choices! But more often that not, we get back to Cascadia, just because of their mini burgers, exactly where we ended up this Friday night. The fact that they are just across the street from us is just a big bonus.
At $3 each, you can select between beef hanger steak, wild king salmon and veggie mini burgers. These are served with tomato, lettuce and pickles, but you can choose ...

For valentine’s day, Siv knew I wanted to go to a place we haven’t been to before, so he made reservations at the Brasserie Margaux in Belltown, the “French” restaurant at the Warwick hotel. I have French in quotes because they have Brasserie in the name, so they are aspiring to be French, but the cuisine is very Northwest!
Anyway, let me start with the service — HORRIBLE! We had an 8:00 PM reservation, showed up at 8:00 and were told that there is a 15 minutes wait. Totally fine, it ...
