Tidbit Bistro

idbit bistro is a casual European restaurant in Capitol Hill that serves Spanish and Italian comfort cuisine. Where Madrid meets Napoli is their slogan. The food is unpretentious, simple and extremely delicious, ambience is casual, staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable - a perfect place to sit back and relax with a bunch of friends on a summer evening.
Tidbit has been on our wish list ever since it opened last year, but somehow the stars never aligned […]

Finally it is summer in Seattle! I don’t think anyone else enjoys summer as much as us Seattleites. We have learned to fully appreciate the few sunny days we get every year. The streets are so lively these days, it is so much fun to go out into the city and get lost in the crowd. A friend and I had a fabulous Parisian style Sunday today. We started with brunch at Cafe Campagne, followed by a waterfront stroll and […]

How to Cook a Wolf

With a catchy name like that, how can anyone resist! Though one can’t help but wonder if the food is any good or is it just the cool name behind all this hype! You have to admit that the name does carry a certain irresistibility factor, which might be one reason behind the unbelievable difficulty in scoring a table at this latest hot spot in town.
How to Cook a Wolf is the title of a book by M.F.K. Fisher; a […]

We may not have as many bloggers out here in Seattle as in the Bay Area, but the Seattle foodies sure know how to have fun! Can you guess who these lovely ladies are?

So, drum rolls please… For the first time in food blogging history, unveiling the beautiful faces behind these amazing blogs - Archana of Archana’s Culinary Adventures, Mythili of Vindu, KayKat of Cooking from A to Z and yours truly! Hmm…does Mythili remind you of someone, the […]

Txori - Taste of Basque in Belltown

When we heard that the Harvest Vine folks opened a new restaurant in Belltown last fall, we were jumping with joy. Harvest Vine is one of our favorite restaurants in town and we love Spanish food. Then I came to know that Txori is a pintxos bar. Pintxos are the Basque version of Tapas, a culinary delight we discovered during our recent trip to Spain. When we were feasting on Pintxos in Barcelona, we kept wishing how great it will […]

Boka Kitchen and Bar

You all must be tired of reading about my birthday by now. It really wasn’t a never ending birthday as some of you thought.  Since my birthday is my favorite day of the year, I have been talking about it for a while, so I can see why you would think that. But the celebrations lasted for barely two days, a dinner with friends the night before, and dinner with Siv the birthday night. So I promise, this is the […]

Cremant

On my birthday, Siv took me to Cremant (pronounced- Kray-Mahn), a famed French Bistro in Madrona that we have been planning to try for a while. Cremant is an unpretentious bistro serving traditional French fare in good sized portions. It is not your typical fine dining French restaurant, where you will have umpteen courses of tiny plates; not that I don’t enjoy that experience.

Siv’s birthday was on a Wednesday this year. We had a private celebration at home, with just the two of us, where I cooked a bunch of his favorite dishes. Then Friday night, we had another celebration with the gang, and after considering a bunch of places, I picked Red Fin as the venue. Siv’s favorite cuisine is Pan-Asian, and Red-Fin was advertised as Asian Fusion, and had some rave reviews too.
Red Fin is owned by the same sushi chef […]

Carmelita

Carmelita is my very first all-vegetarian restaurant experience. Yeah, you read that right, I went to a restaurant that does not serve any meat! It was a friend’s birthday, not the time to be picky, you know. We were all prepared to go have a nice time, and just in case the food sucked, get some take out on the way back. But we didn’t have to, the food turned out to be quite nice.
Carmelita menu is very innovative, with […]

Cafe Juanita

Last Sunday night three girlfriends went out to celebrate a birthday. These three girls have been friends for quite a long time, 15 years to be specific. They met in a deserted town, where there was no life other than an engineering college. The four years which could very well have been miserable, turned into the most memorable time of their lives, thanks to all the friendships formed during the time. Some of those friendships have been forgotten since, but […]

If I have to describe Umi Sake House in one word, the word I’d choose will be BEAUTIFUL! The food is so beautifully crafted, the decor is beautiful, add the mostly eye candy Friday night Belltown crowd to the mix, and it is a place of beauty! For a person who was not too much into Sushi a month ago, Umi has sure made me a convert! I’ve been here three times in the past four weeks! First time was […]

Restaurant Review: 94 Stewart

One of the after-effects of maintaining a restaurant review blog is that your friends start treating you like an expert in the area, and sometimes call on you to get restaurant recommendations. This is an easy task when you are not part of the guest list, send them to one of your favorite restaurants. But when you are also a member of the dinner party, there is a huge dilemma. Should you recommend a tried and tested restaurant that you know is good, or […]

Restaurant Review: Brasa Belltown

Another favorite neighborhood restaurant of ours is Brasa – the Mediterranean restaurant on third avenue. Frankly, the food is one of the best around! The entrées are slightly pricy ($25-$30), but with Microsoft prime card, it is one entrée free for us. We seldom order out of the dinner menu though, the lounge menu is even more fabulous, the prizes are better, and much more choices (No prime card accepted there though) and we get to share 4-5 dishes, which […]

Restaurant Review: Cactus - Kirkland

Cactus is one of my favorite restaurants in Kirkland. The cuisine is Mexican/Southwestern but the taste is very different from the regular Americanized Mexican fare we are used to. But I really go here for their Maragaritas! So, when all my lazy friends decided not to drive across the bridge to downtown to spend a girls night out, the only consolation was that the chouce of venue was Cactus.
Cactus is always lively on evenings, the crowd is not that young or hip. […]

Mistral

After I wrote about Mistral in my Fave Five Seattle Restaurants post, I’ve been craving Mistral food. So for an early wedding anniversary celebration, instead of going to Herbfarm as planned, we headed over to Mistral to check if the food is as good as we remembered. We had it right, the food was as good or even better! Haute cuisine at its best.
During dinner, we did a cost-to-value analysis of Mistral versus some of our other favorite restaurants in town. The seven […]

I don’t believe in second chances; especially when it comes to restaurants. Once I’ve had a bad experience at a restaurant, it is very rare that I’d go back to that place again. With so many choices around, why should I? But there are exceptions to any rule, we finally had a great night at Zoe on our third try, glad I broke the rule on this one.
My first visit to Zoe was with a group of friends on a girls’ […]

There are so many things I love about living in Belltown. Being so close to Macrina Bakery is way up there in this list. This European style bakery and cafe is the place where Seattlites bring their out-of-town visitors to.They have the best breads in town, and the pastries are to die for! Macrina supplies bread to a bunch of restaurants in town, but there is nothing better than buying freshly made bread and pastries directly from source!
Macrina is not just a friendly […]

I am so jealous of people staying at the Madison Valley, they have too many nice restaurants in the neighborhood! I still haven’t made my mind up as to which one I like better, Harvest Vine or Crush, we have been to both places many times, in fact we normally think of going to Harvest Vine, but if the place is too crowded, end up at Crush. That would make you think that Harvest Vine is our first choice, but […]

Typhoon!

Typhoon is one of the best Thai restaurants in town. ( I am just talking about the Redmond Typhoon, I’ve been to the one in Seattle, and even though the menu is the same, taste was totally off!) Typhoon’s dishes are different from the traditional Thai restaurant fare like the red, green and yellow curries and noodles with familiar names. Their dishes are so extraordinary, it is a favorite lunch place for the Microsoft crowd. Try finding a table for a Friday lunch, […]

Vessel - Another Swanky Seattle Bar

Ever since Vessel opened to much fanfare end of last year, we’ve been meaning to check it out. So yesterday when our dear friends called up to say that they have a babysitter for the night and wants to come over downtown to hang out and would like to have dinner at Benihana, which is on the same block as Vessel, I was so eager to suggest meeting at Vessel for drinks first. After Seattle P-I’s restaurant critic linked to my […]

I’ve been contemplating for a couple of days whether to post a review about our Easter Sunday brunch at Etta’s Seafood or not. I’ve been writing reviews only if the food or the experience is really good or really bad. Etta’s is somewhere in the middle, not much to complain about, but nothing to write home about either! I know it is a Seattle favorite, but I’ve been thinking lately that it might just be the hype -Tom Douglas owns the place, so […]

If anyone asked me to name my favorite restaurant in Seattle, my first response would be Harvest Vine. Once I say it out, I might start blabbering and throw some more names out and start categorizing by cuisine, prize, ambiance etc. because that’s just my nature, can’t really commit to anything, except to Siv of course… :).
Harvest Vine has been our favorite restaurant for a while, serving up authentic Basque cuisine and Spanish Tapas to the hungry foodies in the tiny […]

Nishino

Nishino has been on my radar ever since the Zagat Guide to America’s Top Restaurants 2007 came out. According to the Zagat survey, five restaurants tied for the top spot in Seattle in 2006 - The Herbfarm, Nishino, Lampreia, Rover’s and Mistral . We have been to three, and been planning to go to Herbfarm for our anniversary this year, but had never thought of Nishino. So when the 25 for $25 announcement came out, I was really excited to find Nishino in […]

Dim Sum - Little pieces of Chinese heaven

The Cantonese term Dim Sum refers to an assortment of fried or steamed food served in steamer baskets or small plates and are consumed as part of breakfast or brunch. I found different translations for the term like “A Little bit of Heart” , “Heart’s delight” and “Touch of the Heart”. All these make sense, since these little pieces of heaven touches your heart, and you can eat these small delights to your heart’s content. All the dim sum plates are meant to be shared, sharing the Sunday dim sum […]

FareStart - A Restaurant with a Cause

FareStart is one of those restaurants where you can eat without feeling guilty that the money you spend on food can feed a small district in Africa. Why? Because every penny you spend here helps someone start a new life.  They are a non-profit organization that teaches homeless and other disadvantaged the necessary job and life skills to find a job in the food service industry.
The FareStart adult program is an intensive training program combining over 16-weeks of hands-on food-service […]
