Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I forgot the last time we were in town for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. For those outside United States, Black Friday is the day after thanksgiving, the official start of the Christmas shopping season. Most stores open very early in the morning, some even open at Midnight, and has amazing sales. People line up before the stores open to get to the limited doorbuster deals. I have never been to a Black Friday sale, I always thought people must be crazy to go shopping at odd hours in ...

It’s been a busy week. Siv was in Dallas the whole week, and got back Thursday evening. Seattle had some heavy storm warning for Thursday, so I had my fingers and toes crossed till his flight landed and he got out okay. After the devastating wind storm we had in December 2006, that left about one and a half million people without electricity for several days and caused so much property damage, any storm warning here is scary!
I got out of work at 2 PM hoping to beat traffic and the storm, but ...

Summer is almost over, but there is no law against having a sunny cocktail on a dark cold evening, right? There is nothing that fills my heart with sunshine like a fresh tropical island cocktail, bringing back some sweet vacation memories of lazing on the beach…
A Pina Colada is normally made with pineapple, coconut cream and rum. Add one more fruit and you get drinks like strawberry colada, banana colada etc. Can you think of a more tropical combination than banana, pineapple and coconut? A banana colada is not only refreshing, it is ...

Making up a cocktail recipe is easy; coming up with a name for it – not so! After a couple of these drinks, the best I could come up with was LycheeTangita, if you can think of a better name, let me know.

Ingredients
(Makes about 4 drinks)

Canned Lychee drink – 1.5 cups
Tangerine juice - 1/2 cup
Lime juice – 2 tbsp
Sliver Tequila – 3/4 cup
Mint leaves – ~12
Sugar – 1 tbsp
Crushed Ice

Method
Place the torn mint leaves and sugar in a cocktail shaker. Crush with a muddler, or the back of a wooden ...

A daiquiri [daiki'ɾi] by definition is a mixed drink made with rum and lime juice. This Cuban drink was invented in 1905 and is known as Earnest Hemingway’s favorite drink (Remember what his second favorite drink was?). These days the term daiquiri is being used for a variety of frozen mixed drinks with or without lime juice and rum. Since I have both rum and lime juice in this drink, guess I can call it a daiquiri without getting the cocktail police all riled up.

I can’t resist picking up some of fresh berries on my market runs in summer. When I see the colorful berries I get so many recipe ideas- desserts, sauces, salads etc. I pick up a box or two while daydreaming how beautiful the dishes are going to turn out, but I get too lazy and end up just eating those as such, or adding those to the morning cereal, which is not a bad thing, just that I don’t get any pictures out of those.
Another way to make sure that the ...

Sangria is a Spanish wine based cocktail, a fruit punch with wine really. It is a perfect drink for large parties, since it is easy to make and can be made a day ahead. Sangria is basically wine mixed with brandy and fruit juices. This drink is deceptively smooth and sweet, you could really chug it down without realizing how much alcohol you are consuming. Even those who are not into wine normally love Sangria.
Sangria recipe is very versatile, add your favorite fruits, use your favorite red wine, spice it up if you need to, possibilities ...
