Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I forgot the last time we were in town for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. For those outside United States, Black Friday is the day after thanksgiving, the official start of the Christmas shopping season. Most stores open very early in the morning, some even open at Midnight, and has amazing sales. People line up before the stores open to get to the limited doorbuster deals. I have never been to a Black Friday sale, I always thought people […]

Peach Margarita

It’s been a busy week. Siv was in Dallas the whole week, and got back Thursday evening. Seattle had some heavy storm warning for Thursday, so I had my fingers and toes crossed till his flight landed and he got out okay. After the devastating wind storm we had in December 2006, that left about one and a half million people without electricity for several days and caused so much property damage, any storm warning here is scary!
I got out of work at […]

Banana Colada

Summer is almost over, but there is no law against having a sunny cocktail on a dark cold evening, right? There is nothing that fills my heart with sunshine like a fresh tropical island cocktail, bringing back some sweet vacation memories of lazing on the beach…
A Pina Colada is normally made with pineapple, coconut cream and rum. Add one more fruit and you get drinks like strawberry colada, banana colada etc. Can you think of a more tropical combination than banana, pineapple […]

LycheeTangita - A Lychee Tangerine Cocktail

Making up a cocktail recipe is easy; coming up with a name for it - not so! After a couple of these drinks, the best I could come up with was LycheeTangita, if you can think of a better name, let me know.

Tangerine juice - 1/2 cup
Lime juice - 2 tbsp
Sliver Tequila - 3/4 cup
Mint leaves - ~12

A daiquiri [daiki’ɾi] by definition is a mixed drink made with rum and lime juice. This Cuban drink was invented in 1905 and is known as Earnest Hemingway’s favorite drink (Remember what his second favorite drink was?). These days the term daiquiri is being used for a variety of frozen mixed drinks with or without lime juice and rum. Since I have both rum and lime juice in this drink,  guess I can call it a daiquiri without getting the cocktail police all riled […]

RumRazz - Raspberry Cocktail

I can’t resist picking up some of fresh berries on my market runs in summer. When I see the colorful berries I get so many recipe ideas- desserts, sauces, salads etc. I pick up a box or two while daydreaming how beautiful the dishes are going to turn out, but I get too lazy and end up just eating those as such, or adding those to the morning cereal, which is not a bad thing, just that I don’t get any […]

Sangria

Sangria is a Spanish wine based cocktail, a fruit punch with wine really. It is a perfect drink for large parties, since it is easy to make and can be made a day ahead.  Sangria is basically wine mixed with brandy and fruit juices. This drink is deceptively smooth and sweet, you could really chug it down without realizing how much alcohol you are consuming. Even those who are not into wine normally love Sangria.
Sangria recipe is very versatile, add your favorite fruits, use your favorite […]

Another Mojito recipe, you ask? Well, I hear that this blog has been typecasted as the cocktail blog, so to live up to the name Siv and I are trying to build a nice database of cocktail recipes. Ha ha, not really, but we haven’t been cooking much lately and haven’t been to any new restaurants, the only recipes pending in my drafts are two cocktails. So here is another sunny Mojito recipe for your drinking pleasure!
Check out my previous Mojito post […]

Blackberry Mojito

Mojito (pronounced moe-hee-toe) is Cuba’s most famous cocktail, and is supposedly one of Earnest Hemingway’s favorite tipples. The name Mojito is rumored to be derived from the word “Mojo” - remember Austin Powers? This refreshingly tasty drink in its purest form is made of five basic ingredients - rum, mint leaves, lime juice, sugar and club soda. You can make umpteen variations of this by adding any fruits of your desire. I will share the tried and tested recipe for a classic Mojito […]

Inti - A Kiwi Cocktail

The weekend is almost gone, time to share another cocktail recipe. Siv is the de facto bartender in our house, he just throws in some mixes and drinks here and there and it turns out into a pretty good drink at the end. He is a scotch and beer guy himself, but loves to mix cocktails for me and for our parties. I make cocktails only once in a bluemoon, like when I have a girls night at my house, […]

Melon Margarita

I am supposed to be on vacation this week. For the first time in my life I am taking a week off to stay home and relax. Usually time off from work is for travel, but once we get back from a trip, I feel so drained that I don’t feel rejuvenated like I am supposed to, that’s why I thought this would be a great idea! But so far this vacation hasn’t been going very well. I had to go in to […]

Lychee is one of my favorite fruits; I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like lychee. I love the sweetness and the texture and it brings back a lot of childhood memories of palm fruits and young coconuts. Harvested during early summer, fresh lychees are available in Asian stores in spring and summer, and in canned form throughout the year. Lychee makes a wonderful addition to fruit salads and can be used to make a bunch of desserts and cocktails. A web search also revealed […]

We bought a lot of fresh goat from the Indian halal meat store on Friday, I was supposed to make goat curry for a potluck on Saturday, but my friend’s son got sick and the potluck got cancelled. So we decided to just make some goat dish and have cocktails and lay low at home watching a pay-per-view movie friday night, since we have about 5 lbs of fresh goat meat to burn through over the weekend; I hate freezing […]
