Spinach and Potatoes in a Mung Daal-Coconut Gravy

I ran into an old friend a couple of weeks ago. We were meeting after quite a long time. After the initial pleasantries were exchanged, she asked me a question that shocked me a bit. Don’t you cook any normal food anymore? I wasn’t quite sure what she meant by that, so I asked her to define “normal food”. Her definition was – stuff I can cook for a weekday dinner. According to her, lately I’ve been only posting party dishes.  I didn’t really agree with this analysis, since all …

Eggs n’ Potatoes Curry

It’s been raining potatoes here in the blogosphere lately. That is because 2008 is the International Year of Potato. Wow, a whole year devoted to the spuds! Recently Sra wrote that she has used up all her potato memories, but she did have enough memories to fill about a dozen posts… That got me thinking about my relationship with the spud, and I realized that sadly I may not even have enough memories to fill one post!
Growing up, potatoes were these large ugly cubes in sambar with the weird texture …

Spanish Style Potato Wedges with Rosemary and Garlic

The holidays are finally over, time to get back to real life. We had a nice break at home, got used to sleeping at 2-3 am everyday and waking up around noon. It is going to take a little while before getting back to the rhythm of the office schedule from tomorrow. I want to kick start the regular blogging schedule on the new year by posting a recipe after the long break.

A 30 Minutes Dish – Chicken Curry with Potatoes

Wow, have I gotten lazy or what? I don’t know if it is the cold, or it is just the holiday spirit around, I have been a bad bad blogger lately. I rarely visit other foodies, I don’t reply to the comments on my blog, and even though I have a few recipes and restaurants in my drafts to write about, I just don’t feel like getting around to it. And as far as blog events are concerned, I have been ignoring those for a while now.  But I think …

Eggstra-Ordinary Spanish Tortilla

Spanish Tortilla or tortilla de patatas or tortilla española is one of the signature dishes of Spain. Unlike the name suggests ,there is no flour in this; it is a potato omelette. This thick and delicious simple omelette is such a favorite in Spain, it seems in olden ages country girls in Spain could improve their chances of finding the perfect husband by making an excellent tortilla! Spanish omelettes can be eaten hot or cold or at room temperature, this makes a wholesome brunch, and the left overs can be used for a …

H is for Hara Bhara Cutlets

When I invite friends home, normally there is one vegetarian among ten hardcore non vegetarians.  Since the only vegetarian in the group is my best friend, she gets to make a personal request, and she always ask for my spinach cutlets. It is a very easy recipe, and the patties can be made a day in advance, so I’m more than happy to oblige. These cutlets are so yummy, even the hardcore carnivores hog these, I always end up making enough for the whole group in addition to the countless non-veg dishes we cook for …

Mashed Potato Shooters with Spiced Crab Meat

I started blogging just two months ago; about a month ago during one of my regular food blog lurking sessions, I came across the event Jihva for POTATO . This was the first time I was even hearing about a blog event, and I wanted to participate so badly. But I was kind of lost, potatoes are a filler ingredient in most of my dishes, so I decided to wait for another month to participate in a JFI event. But last night suddenly I had an epiphany- Potato shooters! I …
