Cooking for one is not fun. When Siv goes away on a business trip, I normally resort to leftovers and take-outs if I don’t find anyone to go out with. I am too lazy to cook an elaborate meal just for myself. I am not into eating out alone either! I can do pretty much everything alone, I am proud of being quite self sufficient, but hate sitting in a restaurant by myself.  Sometimes I am forced to, like on all […]

Think Spice…Think Cumin! That’s what Sunita told us to do this month. Yes, I’ve been thinking about cumin for the whole month, and finally the deadline was here, without any original ideas in my head! So, I took the easy route out, and modified my easy-breezy salad dressing recipe a little bit to incorporate cumin, and I’ve to say the result was pretty good! I was a little hesitant about using cumin in salads. As much as I love cumin, a […]

Lychee Mango Two Layer Pudding

I’ve always wondered what two of my favorite fruits -Lychee and Mango- combined will taste like. I could just imagine the two flavors together, but never really got around to trying it. I finally got the perfect opportunity this month, when I picked Lychee as the Fruit of the Month, and to my utter shock realized that there are some Lychee haters in this world! How can anyone not love Lychees? So, in my attempt to popularize this amazing fruit, […]

Cooking food wrapped in Banana leaves is an age old technique in Kerala. Our fish pollichathu is the most delicious form of fish that I’ve ever eaten! Also the banana leaf itself imparts its natural flavor and fragrance into the food.
Instead of a traditional fish Pollichathu recipe, […]

Date and Pecan Pudding

A couple of months ago I picked up some (read, a lot) dates just because it was on sale! Normally this is okay, our fridge is usually empty save for a bunch of fruits, some dried out vegetables and some take-out food containers, usually way past the expiration dates. So cleaning out the fridge used to be pretty much about throwing stuff out. But these days it is a different story. The real-estate inside the refrigerator is prime- the crispers are […]

Do you think the name is a little too long? I actually wanted to call this post Cardamom infused Jackfruit Yogurt Panna Cotta with Blueberry Coulis and Jackfruit Puree… but it looked just a tad too long. I like naming my posts with the names of the major ingredients, since that improves the search engine visibility. Yes, it is fun to come up with clever names for a dish, I could’ve called this dish Jackotta, but until I get my own cooking show and make Jackotta […]

There is no concept of too much fish in a mallu kitchen. Well, mine is a half mallu, half Tamil kitchen, but the statement still holds true; we are both avid fish lovers. But somehow we did end up with too much fish in the fridge over last weekend! Weather was really nice, so I walked down to the Pike Place Market and picked up some pink snapper and striped bass on Friday afternoon. Same day Siv brought home some Halibut filets […]
