The Omnivore’s Hundred

I found this very interesting little activity going on around the blogosphere and wanted to play along too. This was originated by Andrew of the Very Good Taste blog.
In Andrew’s on words
“Below is a list of 100 things that I think every good omnivore should have tried at least once in their life. The list includes fine food, strange food, everyday food and even some pretty bad food - but a good omnivore should really try it all.”
If you want […]

Le Cirque, Bellagio - Las Vegas

I am so behind on blogging that I never finished my Las Vegas restaurant trilogy from the first week of June!  I left the best for last; now after almost two months my memory is a little dicey! Same is the case with so many Seattle restaurants in my drafts, but those I can go back and refresh my memory any time I want.   With so many more Vegas restaurants remaining in our must-try list, a Las Vegas repeat is […]

Leavenworth - a charming town in WA where we spent a relaxing July 4th weekend. A beautiful house in the middle of nowhere surrounded by Pear orchards and the stunning Wenatchee river in the backyard; lots and lots of food, drinks and games… it was truly the perfect weekend! Inspired by the resemblance of its countryside to Bavarian Germany, Leavenworth was remodeled as a Bavarian village in the 1960s. The town center is beautiful with its quaint Bavarian architecture, but […]

Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill, Las Vegas

Siv and I are major Iron Chef fans - one of the very few TV programs we watch together.  One of the Iron chefs we really love to watch is Bobby Flay, the main reason being his love towards using bold flavors. He is not afraid to experiment with a little heat, his favorite cooking ingredients being different varieties of chili peppers! So we were looking forward to trying out Mesa Grill, the Las Vegas version of Bobby Flay’s flagship […]

Michael Mina, Bellagio - Las Vegas

Since this was our anniversary trip to Vegas, we were all ready to check off as many restaurants as we can from our Las Vegas wish list. Michael Mina was right up there on top of the list, as we missed the opportunity in San Francisco last year.  Michael Mina’s SF restaurant has got two Michelin stars and the Vegas restaurant has one star in addition to the countless awards and accolades his different restaurants have received. With so much […]

A Decade of Togetherness

Well, the day is finally here… Today is our 10th wedding anniversary. 10 years ago this would’ve seemed like a huge milestone! But back then 10 years was almost half a life time. Now it feels like it was just yesterday that we got married, at the same time the B.S. (Before Siv) memories are slowly fading away.  Strange, isn’t it?
Anyway, my feelings haven’t changed a bit since our last anniversary, so I’ll just quote my thoughts from this day last […]

Well, as expected, Sex and the City didn’t live up to the hype, at least for me. It had its fun moments and extremely witty one liners and most everything a woman could hope for - unbelievable clothes and shoes, lengthy fashion montages, romance and even a naked man in the shower scene; total objectification of men for a change. But all in all it didn’t entertain me as much as it could have! The plot was way too weak […]

A Gloomy Weekend and a Me-Me.

It took us about three weekends of R&R to get back into schedule after the India vacation. We were just cruising through the daily grind, not cooking much or even going out much, mainly doing take-outs and quick fix meals. Siv getting sick in the middle really delayed the transition process. But finally we are back into action, went out both Thursday and Friday night, for happy hour and gourmet food which I’ve been missing so badly!
I had major plans […]

Cruising the Backwaters of Kerala

Kerala is known as God’s own country, for good reason. The luscious stretches of green paddy fields and plantations, serene beaches, beautiful hill stations, pristine waterfalls, tranquil backwaters and exotic wildlife all within just a couple of hours of driving distance from the other makes this beautiful state one of the most sought after tourist destinations of the world! Add the Ayurvedic spas, exotic cuisine and the equable climate, Kerala is truly a tourist’s paradise.
No trip to Kerala […]

First, let me explain the milestone part. This is my 202nd post! Wondering what 202 signifies?  Well, everyone celebrates the magic number 200, not me! 202 is a very special number to me. It was our very first apartment number, and it also was the address of the first house that we owned (well, the mortgage company owned it, but our names were somewhere in the agreement.). And my birthday is Feb 2nd, that is 02-02!! So you see why […]

When people think of Seattle, the first word that they think of is Rain. Yes, we do have those days.  But then we have days like today, that makes us forget about all the dark gloomy days and count our blessings that we live in such a beautiful city.
Snow capped Olympic Mountains and the Puget Sound - a shot from our living room window;the view that makes getting up every morning worthwhile.
I was planning on reinstating my long forgotten […]

My Birthday Loot

Finally, my birthday is here and I am having a fabulous time! We had a fun dinner with friends at Boka last night. Tonight Siv is taking me out for a romantic dinner somewhere, he hasn’t told me where yet. Well, food is always great, but the best part about birthdays are the gifts, and boy, did I score!
Siv got me a whole bunch of stuff related to photography. He actually did a lot of research, and got me stuff […]

Welcoming the New Year with a New Look!

It is 2008 already, well not yet, but it will be before most of you read this. It will be January 1st at least in the Central Pacific Ocean island of Kiritimati (Christmas Island) , the first city to usher in the New Year…. I can’t believe how fast this year went. An year older and hopefully a tiny bit wiser… The only New Year resolution from last year that I stuck to was the No More Poker resolution. Those […]

Looking Back at 2007

Wow, its been an amazing year! I started this blog about year ago. I don’t know the exact date; even though the first post is dated Jan 1st, I am sure I cheated a bit and fibbed the date. If I remember correctly, I woke up way too hung over on Jan 1st to even go near a computer. But now on I am going to pretend like Jan 1st is my real blog birthday.
When I started a blog last […]

A Culinary Journey through Spain

Here it is, the post I have been promising to write for about two weeks now. I finally got around to sorting through all the pictures, a lot of them unusable, especially the ones that were taken after a few glasses of Sangria. But I do have quite a lot, to give you some idea about the diverse cuisine that we didn’t know much about before this trip, except for everyone’s favorite Spanish food -Tapas.

Spanish Vacation Part 3 - Barcelona

This is the last part of my travel posts. Yes, I know I still have to write about the food. But wanted to get this series over with before I get into the food post. Barcelona was the last and best part of our vacation. We spent five nights in this charming, lively city- a place where I could actually imagine settling down at.
Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia province, which has its own language. They sell T-shirts here that […]

Spanish Vacation Part 2 - Toledo

Toledo is a medieval city in central Spain, an hour South of Madrid. This used to be the capital of Spain before Madrid, and there is so much history to this beautiful city, it is definitely worth a visit. We did a day trip from Madrid, but if you want to do this right, you might want to stay overnight and see the city by the night.
Toledo’s history is an interesting mix of Christian, Moorish and Jewish heritages and is […]

Spanish Vacation Part 1 - Madrid

No, I am not back home yet. We are still in Spain, but I wanted to start documenting our trip when it is all still fresh in my mind. We are not out and about sightseeing all the time, there is a lot of relaxation time built into the itinerary, and what is more relaxing than blogging, right? There is nothing but Spanish channels on TV.. also you didn’t think I could ignore my blog for long, did you?
We […]

As I mentioned in my previous SF post, the highlight of our San Francisco trip was the dinner at Gary Danko, a Michelin rated restaurant, which just happened to be a block away from our hotel. Our reservation was at a different place, Michael Mina, which was a small drive away. When I called up Gary Danko for reservation (they were completely booked on both nights we were there), they had told me about the walk-in bar, so we decided […]

Foodie vs Gourmet and A Question for You

I came across a foodie group in a social networking site today, where they talked about how the group is for Foodies and not for Gourmets.
I had always thought of foodie as a person and gourmet as the type of food. Isn’t Gourmand the word for people who love gourmet food? But apparently I was wrong, gourmet is also a person!

Our Micro San Francisco Vacation

This was my first ever trip to San Francisco, but it definitely won’t be the last. You know how after a vacation you feel like taking another vacation to get over the exhaustion? Well, this one was not like that at all, if I can call a barely three day trip a vacation! This trip was totally relaxing for the mind! I felt so refreshed after the trip, totally rejuvenating - retail therapy really works.
We literally spent almost all the time at […]

Awards, Long due thanks and a Me-Me

This is not a food related post. Yes, I know I made this big announcement some time ago about starting another blog for non-food posts, but who was I kidding? I am so lazy, it is a miracle that I am somewhat regular in maintaining this one blog, I might have been delusional to think I could actually handle two. So, you just have to learn to ignore my occasional rants here, if you are here just for the food.
Now, […]

Good Bye Blogger, Hello Wordpress!

I’m in the process of moving the blog over to WordPress. The site will be down for a few hours during the weekend. If everything goes well, we will be up and running by Saturday evening.
The URL for the new wordpress site will remain the same http://blog.sigsiv.com, but some permalinks will be broken. RSS feed links will probably need to be updated too.
Thanks for your patience, have a great weekend!

It was much faster than I expected. I’m on wordpress now. If […]

Weekend this and that

Taking a break from food blogging this weekend… We are busy shopping and packing and trying to squeeze in some last minute sight-seeing, getting ready for my parents’ return trip to India.  I have a bunch of my mom’s recipes and pics in draft, my next few posts will be authentic Kerala recipes.
I finally created a new blog to organize my non-food related posts, so hopefully this will be my last random post here. Some snapshots from this weekend below:

Some Totally Random Musings

Sorry, I have to warn you before you get too far, this is not a food related post. Just wanted to let you all know that I didn’t fall off into the Niagara falls, thanks for the lovely comments and e-mails. After getting back home, things have been hectic at work, so didn’t get time to blog-hop, but I am slowly catching up.  Thanks for all the delicious AFAM entries, please send me an email or leave a comment on the […]
