It sucks to be stuck at home over a long weekend! We had everything ready for a Las Vegas getaway, when I got sick with a really bad cold. Vegas is the wrong place to be with a cold, unless you are on a mission to spread the virus to the world. So we postponed [...]

Pepper Chicken

For a couple of months, we were stuck in a cooking rut induced by job demands, bad health and just pure laziness. We rarely cooked at home and even when we did, it was usually something boring. Luckily there were some events to keep this blog alive and somewhat interesting, but when I browse through [...]

A Chicken Curry with Tamarind

I barely made it to my own event, that is how hectic life’s been lately! But the good news is that I have a four day weekend coming up and we are going away on a mini-break. Nothing major, driving to a nearby town with a group of friends for some much needed R&R. So [...]

I have been blogging for an year and a half now, and for the most part I’ve kept up a steady pace. I have blogged when I was on vacation, when I had visitors and even when I was sick. Only thing that has ever kept me away from the blogging world is work, which [...]

I pretend to be a great chef. I try to believe that cooking is therapeutic, but I don’t really believe that! I do like to pretend that I am a big time cook, I love the accolades that come with it. I love the glory so much that I’ve even deluded myself into thinking that [...]

This is a two part post with the two parts having no connection to each other. I am too jet-lagged and sleepy to come up with some twisted way of joining the two as I sometimes do. So feel free to skip the first part and jump to the recipe directly. Sorry, but I must [...]

Spicy Popcorn Chicken

For me the main attraction about watching a movie in the theatre is the popcorn. I prefer watching movies at home, sitting in my favorite recliner, with a nice cold beer and some spicy snacks. But no snack goes better with a movie than the theatre popcorn, I could just stare at the screen and [...]

As promised, here is another of my Quick fix healthy dinners. In case you missed the salmon post, Siv and I are trying to eat healthy at least a few days a week. We do go a little overboard on weekends, eating out or cooking the fattiest cuts of meat. But last year we used [...]

I have been a chestnut fan ever since I tasted the roasted ones a few years ago. Every winter, a small stand opens in front of Uwajimaya (a Pacific Northwest Asian grocery store chain) where they sell freshly roasted chestnuts hot from the pan. First time I bought it out of curiosity, and I was hooked with the first bite.

Wow, have I gotten lazy or what? I don’t know if it is the cold, or it is just the holiday spirit around, I have been a bad bad blogger lately. I rarely visit other foodies, I don’t reply to the comments on my blog, and even though I have a few recipes and restaurants [...]

It’s been a while since I posted a recipe, I am still trying to catch up with real life after getting back home. Since I couldn’t ignore the food part of my food blog completely,  I desperately wanted to come out and post a food post. What better way to come out of the recipe [...]

I am one of those people who love the bone better than the meat. I actually eat the entire bone, especially soft bones like chicken.  With tougher bones like lamb/goat, I can chew on a piece of bone for hours on end, and have been compared to a dog on many occasions. Siv loves bones too, but [...]

I know, I have way too many chicken recipes! I haven’t even published half of my different chicken dishes here. Most of my Indian chicken recipes call for very similar set of ingredients, but the ratio of ingredients, and the cooking method itself finally make these all unique dishes with their own unique identity. That [...]

We seldom have elaborate dinners at home on weekdays, unless Siv is in charge of cooking. The guy doesn’t believe in moderation! If he is making chicken biryani, he has to have mutton curry on the side and vice versa. If he is making fish curry, he will need a chilly chicken to go with [...]

This is the first critically acclaimed dish that I’ve ever cooked. Long time ago, when I was still an amateur cook (ahem… you start a food blog, and immediately you are known as an expert, in my circle at least ) I used to make this dish for all my parties, just because this was [...]

Chicken Dilruba

I am ashamed to admit this, but when it comes to the myriad cuisines of India, I am more or less ignorant about most regional flavors other than a few. That is why I love the food event RCI - Regional Cuisines of India, brainchild of Lakshmi of Veggie Cuisine. Even though I don’t participate every [...]

Chilli Chicken is a loose term used to describe a variety of dry chicken preparations in India. There is no standard recipe for it, everyone uses the culinary license to make their own versions of this popular dish. I have multiple variations of chilli chicken recipes, it is the perfect dish to experiment with. This particular recipe is [...]

I know easy is a relative term. Making Biryani is never that easy, it is normally a multi step process - prepare the meat and the gravy, fry the rice, cook the rice, mix the rice with the gravy and bake for a while… give or take and mix and match some steps here and there, it [...]

Green Curry Chicken

Indian dishes don’t photograph very well. Okay, let me rephrase that, I don’t know how to make Indian dishes look good in pictures. I had about 30 pictures of this dish, but didn’t really like any, spent about an hour trying to find a decent one, and finally here is one I hope at least look [...]

Kerala Chicken Masala

Chicken Masala is such a generic term, I know. But not sure what else to call this dish, and to make matters worse, I make at least 5 different types of chicken masalas, so will have to just call these CM1, CM2 etc. I made CM1 as a side for Mutton Biryani today. Well, I don’t get the [...]

Chicken Lollypop is one dish that I miss greatly from the Indo-Chinese restaurants back in India. I’ve been to a bunch of Indo-chinese restaurants around here in US and Canada, but none of them served this wonderful dish!!! Recently I went to a Latin-Asian fusion restaurant and ordered Chicken Lollypops and was very disappointed, when [...]
