About
Welcome to Live To Eat – yet another food blog!
I am Sig, a foodie at heart, stuck in the techie world in Seattle, WA with my darling husband Siv where we along with some dear friends spend a lot of time around food – eating it, talking about it, cooking it etc… This is the medium for sharing my passion, to share some tried and tested recipes from our kitchen and to share opinions about the restaurants we visit.
All the views expressed here are strictly my own opinions; your perspective may be different. Feel free to disagree with me, but do note that rudeness WILL NOT be tolerated.
I don’t consider myself an expert, neither should you! Try the recipes at your own risk. All the recipes here are tried and tested by me, unless noted otherwise. The measurements given in the ingredient list are mainly for reference, these may vary a bit from what I actually used. Feel free to adjust to suit your palate. If you try a recipe, and figured out a way to make it better, do let me know.
I am from Kerala, a southern state in India. You will find a lot of authentic Kerala recipes here, and most of the other recipes are very much influenced by basic Kerala techniques. Siv is from Tamil Nadu, another southern state in India. You will find a fair amount of Tamil recipes here as well. We love exploring other cuisines, so there are a bunch of other recipes which don’t fall into either of these categories; it is all about variety here. We are hardcore carnivores, so as you can guess, the recipes are predominantly non-vegetarian. We also do a lot of experimentation in the bar, so you will find a lot of cocktail recipes here as well.
Thanks for stopping by, browse around, and let me know what I can do to make the site better.

Sigma,
Nice recipes, I will try to make some of them. I have noticed the curries in sri lankan style is some of the best I ever had.
November 23rd, 2007 @ 7:30 pm
Blessings to you.
I am now back in Altamonte Springs,
Florida.
Miss the Indian brothers and sisters at the
Marietta Bible Chapel in N. Atlanta, Georgia.
They were quite a crew.
Did not really remember them bringing INDIAN
STYLE foods to the monthly chapel dinners however.
Only spent a short two year and an half in
N. Atlanta (Roswell and Alpharetta) but I
do have happy memories of the area,
HARRY’S FARMERS MARKET in Alpharetta and Marietta had foods from all over the world.
Blessings. Once and a while I get nice emails
from some brothers from India around the world.thanks for dropping by Jerry!

Sigma,
I have tried a number of them, may be a clone due to the fact I don’t get all the ingredients handy very much. However I really liked the passion and effort you have made to the food recipes. By looking at the picture and the write up itself, it is very clear that you have done tremendous good work to prepare it.
Some time when I travel (I do travel 4 days a week as part of my job) I look for authentic Indian food in major US cities, some time is very hard to tell you it is not that much easy to find the right Indian food nowadays.
Have you ever tried to make Indian food in clay cookware with slow cooking?

Hey Sig,
I happened to see your blog when I ‘googled’ for some recipes. To be frank, I liked and tried your recipes because u mentioned ingredients which are easily available here in the US. I like your style of writing. It was very easy for me ( who has just started cooking )to understand. After having tried a few recipes, This is the first place I will look for when i want some recipe.
Cheers,
Chaits

hi sig…
i loved ur write up…i too am from kerala too.i loved ur site and ur recipes…am gonna try some soon…
April 15th, 2008 @ 7:04 am
Sig,
Brilliant blog! Thank you for sharing.
I browse through a lot of food blogs, but did not see one with as many must-try recipes for me.
Your assessment on Indian restaurants in US is spot on. It is unfortunate that fewer than 5% of the Indian restaurants here offer food comparable to the food from a basic chain restaurant like Kamat in India.
If you do come across a must-try Indian restaurant list, please publish. I can add a few from NYC area.

Hi Sig,
When i see your recipe its so much identical like my mom’s recipe. I am keralite born and brought in Mumbai, married to a Uttaranchali boy, who hails from Delhi. At present living in Louisville, KY. I liked cooking but never tired before marriage and after marriage with my mom’s on phone support, i managed to cook some kerala cuisine to satisfy my taste. But now that am in Lousiville, i can rely on ur recepies..
one day i called up my mom around 5 am her time to check for rasam recipe…oh god that so bad of me but what to do i just want the same taste as what my mom used to cook. Please keep sharing great Kerala recipe. I shall share some of the Uttaranchal cuisine with you which i have learnt so far
…cya.

forgot to tell you one thing, i tried ur pavakka theeyal came out very well.
one thing i added. as the theeyal was very bitter, i did my own addition
here you are…..
in another pan add 2 spoon oil, add finely chopped tomatoes-2 no and finely chopped green chillies 2 no, saute well, till tomatoes start becoming a paste. now add this to the fully prepared theeyal and boil for 2 min, the bitterness reduces to a large extent and becomes more tasty………..try it sig

Hi Sig,
Amazing pic. Phew! I have spent about 2 hrs in your blog today and that’s a RECORD. I am reading a blog at the most for 10-15 mins and outta there usually. Even when i used to visit your for recipes, I’d drool over the pics until somebody notices, make notes and quit. Today your SBD diet story kept me here this long. U TRULY are an inspiration and seeing your pic helps. I am starting on mine seriously tomorrow(all plans of weekend hogging set aside) so I can get back into my size 8 jeans this summer. I went all the way to size 12 and now wear a very uncomfortable size 10 (may be because i don’t see many size 11). Thanks a bunch for all your patience in detailing the diet program including prepwork and grocery list.

Sig – All of your recipes are signature recipes. We have tried most of them and they turn out to be very fantastic. Keep up your passion and have a kind request – please post recipes for two items. One is puffs not the puffs made of pastry sheets but the one that I am referring comes in triangular shapes deep fried filled with onion and chilli powder – very popular and sold during intervals in movie theatres. The other item is apple cake – speherical in shape – lightly sweetened and has a sugary coating on the top – sold at bakeries in Tamil Nadu. Siv would know both of these items as he is also from TN.

Hey There – This is an awesome site…I am from Kerala…but came to States when I was 6, and so you know I don’t know much of the Kerala cooking, even though mom cooked Kerala food while I was growing up. My hubby was brought up in Kerala and he is very much into Kerala food. This website is awesome, has all the info I need to make dishes for the home and even for special events. Thank you for having something like this for those wives who don’t know how to cook and are learning…we have two small girls…2 and 8 months old. My oldest loves pasta dishes, and it was nice to see a few pasta recipes on here…Thanks girl! =)

An affiliate network can be thought of as a virtual meeting place between publishers and merchants. Publishers being the affiliates, and merchants being the product owner or creator. Most networks offer hundreds of different products to promote for a commission. The amount paid to affiliates varies widely from network to network. The products could range from digital information products, to any number of actual physical products. No matter what your niche, you can expect to find an affiliate product for it in the top affiliate networks.

Hello there! I was looking for a vegetarian version of the SBD & it looks like your blog is it.
This is probably a stupid question, but the original SBD give a day by day menu for at least the 1st stage. (I never made it to the second stage, but I lost 13 lbs. in the 2 weeks of Stage 1.) I simply followed the principles for @ a year & then they disappeared 1 by 1!
So do any of your blog entries or comments provide some sort of Daily Phase 1 Menu (or all phases)for Dummies?
Thanks & cheers!
