  • Giveaway Announcement – Win $100 or a Cookbook!

    Posted on | August 24, 2010 | 203 Comments |

Update Sept 11th – All the contest entries are posted to this page, the number next to your name will be your entry number.

I was recently contacted by CSN stores to do a promotional giveaway on the blog for my readers and I thought, why not! I’d love to spread the joy around. CSN stores has over 200 online stores where you can find everything from cookware to cribs to dining room sets and dog beds! They are giving away a $100 gift certificate which can be redeemed at any of their 200+ web sites to one lucky reader.

Since only one person can win the $100, I thought I will throw in a consolation price of my own. I am giving away 4 copies of my absolute favorite cookbook, my Kerala cooking bible – Mrs. K.M.Mathew’s Flavours of the Spice Coast.  I have raved about this book many times in this blog before. It is a beautiful book with mouthwatering pictures and a great collection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian recipes. I have tripled my cookbook collection since this post where I declared this book my favorite, but I haven’t found a better one yet.

    Flavours of The Spice Coast

So, what do you have to do to get the $100 gift certificate or a copy of the most amazing Kerala cookbook? Not much, just Leave a comment on this post and let me know what your favorite recipe on this blog is, before September 12th 2010 . If you have never tried any recipe from here before, have a look around and let me know which recipe you are most likely to try first.

In order to improve your chances at the $100 gift certificate and the book, do one or more of the following.

    1. Share this post on Facebook and mention in your comment that you have done so, and you will get an extra entry in the giveaway.
    2. Share this post on Twitter and mention in your comment that you have done so, and you will get yet another entry.
    3. If you have your own blog, add a link to this post on your blog and let me know through a comment and you will get an additional entry.

How will I select the winners?

    • I will add all the email ids from the comments on this post to a spreadsheet.
    • If you have done any of the above three actions, your e-mail id will be added multiple times to the spreadsheet, once for each of the items. So if you shared this post on facebook and twitter you will get three entries, if you shared on Facebook you will get two entries. So on and so forth.
    • Then I will use a random number generator to select 5 lucky winners from the spreadsheet.
    • First person chosen will get the $100 gift certificate from CSN Stores.
    • Next 4 will get a copy of the book Flavours of the Spice Coast.
    • The contest ends on September 12th, 2010 Midnight, Pacific Standard Time.

    More Info

    • CSN Stores will only ship their products to US and Canada residents. So if you win the giveaway and you don’t reside in either of these countries, you can still get their gift certificate by email and send it to any of your friends or relatives in US or Canada.
    • I will ship the books to anywhere in the world. So if you win the $100 gift certificate and you don’t have anyone in US or Canada that you can give it to, you will have an option of opting for the book instead. In that case the gift certificate will go to the second winner in the list.
    • All winners will be contacted by e-mail, so please leave a valid e-mail id. The gift certificate is sent by email, but the book winners will need to send me your mailing address so that I can ship the book to you.

So, what are you waiting for? Find your favorite recipe on the site and leave a comment. Also, click on the Share this Post and Tweet this Post links on top of this post to increase your chances. Good luck! Remember, the contest ends on September 12th, 2010 Midnight, Pacific Standard Time.

My husband loved the Chuppal Kari – Broomstick Mutton Curry so much that it has become a staple now at home!!! Its truly a masterpiece! I made it with chicken but have not compromised on anything else, the skewering, simmering, the chillis. And all this even though i am a vegetarian who knows that the way to my man’s heart is definitely through his ever-more growing tummy :-) )

I would surely try “Whole Wheat Banana Walnut Bread”

Being a Nutritionist , I know how wholesome this Bread is..

This is one dish I would surely love to plan in my Diets for the clients who have sweet tooth but suffer from diabetes..Though such patients are adviced to eat bananas in moderation but it has lot of fibre in form of whole wheat as well as heart healthy fat (omega-3 fatty acids) in form of walnuts.. this dish if eaten once in a while wont be harmful for sure.

      Thanks for posting this recipe.

My favourite recipe (a tough choice to make) is the Spicy Roast Chicken – Kerala Style.
Though it is not purely Keralian, the ingredients and the long in and out process of slow roasting the chicken gives it that Kerala feel in the end.
Also learnt that the smaller chicken that I use are called Cornish! Thanks!

Have posted the link on both Facebook and Twitter.

I have made so many recipes from your blog….your blog is my go-to place for spicy chicken and fish recipes! Funnily though, my favourite recipe from here is a vegetarian one- Pavakkai Mezhukupparati
      http://blog.sigsiv.com/2007/11/bitter-gourd-stir-fry-with-coconut-slices-pavakka-mezhukkupuratti.html

This one has become a staple preparation in my home and is made every other week – so much so, my friends and family who visit have also asked me for this recipe, they enjoy it so much! I have talked about it in this post
      http://peppermill-miri.blogspot.com/2010/06/last-sundays-brunch-had-piece-by-vir.html

      and this post

      http://peppermill-miri.blogspot.com/2010/01/bitter-gourd-stiry-fry-with-peanuts.html

The other recipe I have adapted and loved is Your Prawn and Mango Curry http://blog.sigsiv.com/2007/09/prawn-and-mango-curry-another-kerala-delicacy.html
      which I made with Fish – http://peppermill-miri.blogspot.com/2010/07/fish-curry-with-mango.html

Then I adapted this recipe of yours
      http://blog.sigsiv.com/2008/01/no-oil-baked-chicken-in-a-garlic-cilantro-mint-marinade.html

to make this beautiful Lemon Coriander grilled chicken with mango sauce

My fav is Siv’s tamil style crab reciepe. one word to describe it is “yum”. I use your reciepe more often than my moms which was my fav before discovering siv’s.

The receipe goes well with whole crab or with blue crab meat in a container from costco.

I posted a whole lot about all the recipes I have tried and love from your blog, including links to the posts they have inspired and now I can’t see my comment here at all :(

      So here goes again:

Inspired by your Prawn and Mango Curry

      http://peppermill-miri.blogspot.com/2010/06/last-sundays-brunch-had-piece-by-vir.html

This post discusses how we have evolved in our eating habits – so your Pavakka Mezhukupuratti has become a staple in my home – much loved by even family and friends who have had it and asked for the recipe. I make it every alternate week now.

This post mentions the same preparation too

      http://peppermill-miri.blogspot.com/2010/01/bitter-gourd-stiry-fry-with-peanuts.html

And finally your marinated grilled chicken which is also my favourite and which inspired this recipe as well as some others I haven’t posted.

Sweet! I’ve tenaciously hounded down Kerala cookbooks out there, I’m surprised I’ve never seen this one. I bought something by Mrs. B.F.Varghese thinking that would be all-in-one resource, and the first recipe was for Brain Curry. FAIL.

I can’t believe this—have been trying to get hold of this book for ages now…somehow or the other, its always out of stock! On my last visit to Kerala in April, I looked all over the bookshops(including the little one at TVM airport), but they did not have it…so am certainly glad that you are offering this as a giveaway! I won’t forgive myself if I do not try (also, its a very belated attempt to tell you how much my family loves this recipe). My favorite recipe on this blog is the chilli chicken — the “first critically acclaimed dish that you ever cooked”…I simply love this recipe and have made it atleast 10 times. Whenever I have made it for visitors, it doesn’t last beyond the first 10 mts :-D . My 4 1/2 year old son is its biggest fan (he doesn’t even mind how hot it is, although I do reduce the “heat” factor with him in mind). I have yet to try out some of the other recipes on this blog, although I faithfully read and mark them. Must mention your project 365 photo blog…I love it! I check it just to see what you have on it! Great work. on both blogs..keep it up!
