Announcing the Winners of the Cookbook Contest

9 March 2008 34 Comments

Thanks everyone for joining me in my 202nd post celebrations. Wow, I can’t believe most of you could guess most of the answers right! Thanks again to one of the sweetest people in the blogging world, my dearest fried Musical for these thoughtful gifts.

First, here are the answers to the guessing game.

  1. Punjabi Wadi  In Musical’s own words they are spice cakes made out of daal (urad or urad+moong) and petha (ash-gourd), with lots and lots of spice-sun dried to perfection and used as condiments in Punjabi cooking.

Check out the following Wadi recipes for more information.

  2. Panch Phoron
  3. Kalijira Rice
  4. Kali Jeeri (Update: Sorry, this was not Kala Jeera, but Kali Jeeri, Thanks Anita for pointing it out.)
  5. Anardana / Dried Pomegranate seeds

The only person who got all the right answers and won the first prize is…

Richa

But wait, there is a consolation prize for those who were so close! The Kalijira rice was the toughest for everyone. Since different varieties of rice look kind of the same, only difference being the fragrance. So to be fair, I will accept rice as an answer for #3, and add one more prize for a randomly chosen person from the following who got the other 4 answers correct plus rice.

  1. EvolvingTastes
  2. Lakshmi
  3. Srivalli
  4. Asha
  5. TBC
  6. Pooja V
  7. Archana
  8. Nayana
  9. Anita
  10. Manasi

I put the names of the people who got the answers right, in the order in which they got the correct answers, and with the help of the Random Number Generator , the winning number was picked.

And the winner is …

#9 – Anita

Now, the two random winners from the 62 entries received.

#43 – Sandy

#7 – Raaga

I cannot believe – my luck has finally turned! I seem to be getting some of the best lucky-dip prizes around! :( Yes): (And thanks, Sig!)

There’s one thing though – kalijeeri is not the same as kala zeera or shah zeera! ;-) That spice you featured is kalijeeri and not shah-zeera! I know ;-) cause I quizzed about it! last year! Shah jeera is Bunium persicum, also called black cumin or wild cumin.

Now, tell me if you have a prize for this information! ;-)

WHATT???? I should take your prize back for this ruckus you are causing

okay, so kalijeeri is not black cumin? Calling Musy…. Help……

      and… yeah Congratulations Anita :D

      SORRY, Anita and Sig :(

In the middle of the night, i mislabeled the stuff. it is indeed kali-jeeri, a bitter seed and not kala jeera.

My sincere apologies to all the readers at Live to Eat, and to the blog author. Sig, sweetie, i am sooooooooooo sorry-now, may get a hug :)

aah don’t worry sweetie… Most said Kala Jeera anyway, and I had taken both Kali jeeri and Kala jeera as correct guesses, so no harm done… :)

      Hi,

I’m am on a desparate search for Vernonia anthelmintica (commonly known as kali zeeri) seeds. I need to take them for a medical condition – I’m rh sensitized, and it may help me avoid complications in a pregnancy. Oh, and I’m 40+, so time is running out!

But enough of my issues :-) – does anyone know where I can find these in the states or get via mail quickly?

      Thanks!

      Alicia
