Restaurant Review: Brasa Belltown
Saturday, September 15th, 2007Filed Under Belltown, Mediterranian
Another favorite neighborhood restaurant of ours is Brasa – the Mediterranean restaurant on third avenue. Frankly, the food is one of the best around! The entrées are slightly pricy ($25-$30), but with Microsoft prime card, it is one entrée free for us. We seldom order out of the dinner menu though, the lounge menu is even more fabulous, the prizes are better, and much more choices (No prime card accepted there though) and we get to share 4-5 dishes, which is how we like to dine normally. Also, if we get there during the happy hour (5-7 pm daily), the lounge menu is half prize!
This has been a venue for several girls night outs, our impromptu dinner outings and even a new year celebration. Brasa has never disappointed me even once! The ambience is super classy. The dining room and the lounge area are well separated, and both areas are spacious, we could always find seats at the lounge on walk-ins.
Last Sunday night, Siv and I went to Brasa for dinner, and I finally got to take some pics. We were not all that hungry, so we settled on just three dishes from the lounge menu, normally we get at least four dishes, sometimes even more, but three were just perfect this time. I think the main reason was the wonderful frites that came with the burger that really filled us up! Anyway here is the line-up! (I really need to get my restaurant camera cleaned… the lens was all dirty, and the pics didn’t turn out so clear
, and too much flash too.)
Fried Oysters
I am a big fan of oysters, fresh and fried. Siv can just tolerate them. But he loved this one too! The garlic aioli that came with the oysters was just out of this world, I polished off the aioli with all those scrumptious frites.
Grilled Flat Iron Steak
This was a little too smaller than we expected, especially since it was sooo good! We ordered it medium, but I think we should’ve gone for medium rare. But it indeed was so juicy and tender, and was bursting with flavor. I kept my half for the last bite, so it was cold by the end of the meal, a big mistake on my part. The salad that it came with had this tangy flavor with lots of cilantro, a tad too strong I’d say.
Spanish Pork Burger
The pulled pork in this burger was so soft and juicy, was well marinated with some amazing spicy Spanish flavors. It came with a salsa-like dipping sauce and the frites that filled me up to the core!
Now I look at the pictures, and it looks too less right? I guess we just weren’t too hungry that night!
Some of my favorites from previous visits:
· Curried Mussels (There is a lot of it in one plate, order this only if you are sharing!)
· Brasa lamb burger (Super delicious!)
· Spanish fried squid (yummy calamari)
And for main, the Roasted Pig here is the best pork in the city!
Brasa has a nice selection of martinis and champagne cocktails, apart from their extensive winelist. We had a nice cabarnet to go with all these delicious food this time, but I remember their martinis from last visits, some really potent drinks!

You really write great restaurant reviews, Sig! Its really nice that you get to have girls night outs! Most of my friends have moved from LA, so no such luxury for me any more…..miss eating out so much!
Anything there for vegetarians?
hmm.. the meat looks a little raw. thats what makes me a lil apprehensive about taking non-veg when abroad..
i am also thinking of posting reviews of restaurants in hyd.. i eat out atleast twice a month.
but always forget to take my camera
You should have stayed around here, we love to eat out so much that such reviews would come in very handy.
But your sukha ch. looked better than the pork sandwich
Ayyo!!This is too much sig…
Aah!!I am drooooling here…seeing the pork ularthu, prawn mango curry with kudampuli…that fried chicken!!Wow !!wow!!..
The oysters are looking moist and lovvvely with those crunchy veggies and its dip!!.No more worrying about the pic(thank God!!Other wise this girl would have have made drool more)
;)…wish I could join you,Sig..:(
u guys shuld be the honoured guests in the restaurants neary..!!
Asha, I guess they used spanish seasonings instead of bbq sauce in the sandwich… it was very yummy!
Musie, yeah, we have regular girls night outs… don’t worry, you will find some new friends soon..
Vegetarians..they did have some salads ;)… actually they had a few items in the menu…
Nags, you will get used to the meat taste here, and then you will start appreciating the meat taste rather than how the dish tastes like… that piece of meat in the pic was actually a little overcooked.
. And you should definitely start posting restaurant reviews in Hyd. I almost always have my small camera in my bag these days…
Sandeepa, thanks
I know the food doesn’t look all that great, but i think my photography is to blame there, the sandwich tasted really great…
Bharathy, thanks
haven’t seen you around in a while… but looks like you are all caught up
AKSAWRH,
had to shorten your name somehow
I wish they start giving us discouts
Steven has wanted to go here for a while. Half price lounge menu, I’m so there.
Sig, that is one good write up on Brasa, those fried oysters are mouthwatering….I dont eat pork/beef, so cannot imagine how they taste, but the pictures look yummy…so were u there around 5-7 time? to grab those pricey things halfway?
Amy, yeah, that is an awesome deal… you must try this place, food is just amazing!
Padma, unfortunately no, not this time
we are too lazy to plan and get to happy hour, though thats what we should be doing…
Actually I find Brasa is fairly decent for vegetarians. Surprisingly it’s better in the bar menu than on the main dining room menu, but I don’t even bother sitting in the main dining room anymore.
