The Giveway

I’m in the process of moving the blog over to WordPress. The site will be down for a few hours during the weekend. If everything goes well, we will be up and running by Saturday evening.

The URL for the new wordpress site will remain the same http://blog.sigsiv.com, but some permalinks will be broken. RSS feed links will probably need to be updated too.

    It wasn’t completely hassle free, but if you are planning to do it, I suggest doing this sooner than later, more stuff you have, more complicated it guess :)

    I know what you mean… I know how to do pretty much everything in blogger… but I hate those labels and indexing, that was the main reason behind the move, oh and I was bored ;)

    Sure, mail me if you need help… It gets easier if you have the pics outside blogger… if all your pics are stored in blogger, it is going to be a toughie… :)

    Ive been thinking of moving for sucha long time…. its so easier to comment on wordpress…. and the whole look is neater too :)

    Yep, I love the wordpress themes much better than blogger… and complete control is what I needed

    Asha, it depends on how you are going to use it… If you are going for a wordpress hosted blog vs blogger hosted blog, I’d say blogger is easier, ie. if you have a .wordpress.com URL, you need to pay to make any stylesheet changes. But if you are hosting on your own server, you get complete control… in that case wordpress is much better… So, it ultimately depends on how much customization you need and if you are willing to pay for it :) … blogger is free, but there is afterall a limit to the customization.

    Hey sig, definitely WP has a neat look than blogger. I was planning to move one of my blogs too. But than we become so comfortable with blogger that the move seems to disturb that comfort. Let me know how it is going with WP. Was the move easy? I too have an account with WP, but couldn’t locate any templates. So just left it like that. Your suggestions will help. Thanks.

    Hi Rina, as I replied to Asha’s comment, it really depends… if you are moving to a wordpress hosted blog, I still haven’t seen any benefits for the move… but then again, I’m not an expert there. I installed wordpress on my own web server, so I have complete control over it…. If you have a free wordpress hosted blog, you can update the templates under presentation tab…

    i like wordpress..where u can ans right below every comment…but for a computer retard like me..who knows nothing but excel!! me shifting to anything and moving things around is a disaster!!

    Congrats, sweetie! The new look is hot! I was just wondering how easy/difficult it is to host a blog on your own server, how much of time investment etc is required (you can see, i know zilch about it) :-D any other logistics one needs to keep in mind.
