Sunday Brunch at Etta’s
Wednesday, April 11th, 2007Filed Under American, Breakfast/Brunch, Downtown, Northwest, Seafood
I’ve been contemplating for a couple of days whether to post a review about our Easter Sunday brunch at Etta’s Seafood or not. I’ve been writing reviews only if the food or the experience is really good or really bad. Etta’s is somewhere in the middle, not much to complain about, but nothing to write home about either! I know it is a Seattle favorite, but I’ve been thinking lately that it might just be the hype -Tom Douglas owns the place, so it must be good, right?
Well, don’t get me wrong, food is not at all bad, it used to be our favorite brunch place when we lived in the eastside and used to come to Pike Place Market for shopping. But now that we live in Seattle and know all the brunch places around here, the food at Etta’s seems pretty average for the prize they charge! The location is great, right next to Pike Place Market, so their primary target customers might be out-of-towners. Overprized, average food - a typical touristy restaurant trait.
Here is what we had for our Sunday brunch:
Poached Eggs on English Muffin, dungeness crab, spinach. chipotle hollandaise, home fries - $17.00
Etta’s clam chowder - $8.00
Tom’s dungeness mini-crabcakes, green cocktail sauce - $13.00
Side of Asparagus with roasted nuts and hollandaise - $4.00
Fresh Orange Juice - 2 x $4.25 - $8.50
Coffee - 2 x $2.00 - $4.00
Total - $54.00 + Tax + Tip = $70.00
What do you think? A little too much for what we had, right?
Food was good, I loved the crab cakes and asparagus and Siv’s egg benedict was great! Siv didn’t like the clam chowder since it wasn’t all that strong. I, on the other hand don’t like regular clam chowders, so this was good for me being not so clammy.
Service was good, we didn’t have reservations, found seats at the counter, got timely attention, everything was just what you would expect, nothing much to report.
Ambiance is great, Etta’s is always hustling and bustling on weekends, it is fun to watch the Pike Place Market crowd walking by.
But, I don’t think we are going back to Etta’s! There are too many options in and around Pike Place Market for a nice cheap brunch, most of which I hope to cover in the coming months, since we always walk down to Pike Place on warm weekends. As for Tom Douglas’ food, we will stick to Dahlia Lounge.

Those homefries look great,I’ll just have those. That is indeed a pricey menu for a brunch…and I am sure Seattle has so many places to offer….
I do love brunches on weekends..my husband and I used to go to this little brunchery in Tampa when we lived there….it was so comfy, and they served fresh squeezed Valencia orange juice right in front of you…the home fries were awesome..but I went mostly for their Veggie Crepes. It was quite reasonable too….I do miss Tampa for the restauarants! ah well…
Hope you’re enjoying your week~

A little too much for Brunch but look all that treat!!It’s worth it.YUM!!!
Then you didn’t eat anything for the whole day.right?!;D
sig, my girl…wish u stayed in UK. i would have got gr8 reviews on different restaurants;)
What a shame you thought it was only so-so because it looks and sounds wonderful! It does seem expensive for what it is though…great review!
hey sig,
.
it does sound a little too steep.
we can hardly get ourselves out of the home early enough for brunches on a wknd. We usually do that when we are on vacation and want to enjoy a full day after eating well
Good review.
thanks
Sig
Have you tried Serious Pie by TD? We really enjoyed the takeout pizza we had there. Its also very reasonable for a tom douglas place. Oh I had the best cannoli there as well..
Let me know if you try it..

trupti fresh squeezed orange juice and crepes sounds so great for brunch. We have a lot of small cute brunch places in Seattle, including some creperies. I love this city just for all the options for food, this is a true foodie town.
Asha, I wish I was at least stuffed, but portions were really tiny, I was hungry soon after
Sup, , when we visited London we went to some amazing restaurants, long before blogging started though, so don’t remember any names
Freya, , food does look beautiful doesn’t it? But it really wasnt worth the prize.
Richa, , yeah I know what you mean about getting out of the house early on weekends, we are pretty lazy too, this Sunday brunch was at 2:00 pm
Archana, no, we haven’t tried Serious Pie, I heard about it when they opened, but never been there! Do they deliver?
I’m not big into pizza, it is our fallback option when everyone else refuse to deliver, pagiliacci to the rescue… But you convinced me, we might just grab takeout from there next time. Do you live downtown?
“Tom Douglas, so it must be good”
Now that cracked me up :))
i do that too sometimes…..The “if, so” protocol :))
Sig
I dont think they deliver.. hubby and i do a weekend night take out and I specifically chose to drive 12.4 minutes to get Serious Pie pizza. No I dont live downtown.. I do live in the city and not eastside!
It was worth the drive for me as I love pizza and Pagliacci is my default fav but S. Pie did have some unique combos.
By the way, nice shots of pics from your place. You must live in Belltown.
Archana
Cool Archu, we will definitely pick some up next time we feel like take out.
Yep, you guessed it right, we live in Belltown.
Have a great weekend!
