Friday night cocktail hour - Kerala Mutton Fry and a Beer Cocktail
Saturday, January 13th, 2007Filed Under Cocktails, Good with Drinks, India - Kerala, Lamb or Goat, Recipes
We bought a lot of fresh goat from the Indian halal meat store on Friday, I was supposed to make goat curry for a potluck on Saturday, but my friend’s son got sick and the potluck got cancelled. So we decided to just make some goat dish and have cocktails and lay low at home watching a pay-per-view movie friday night, since we have about 5 lbs of fresh goat meat to burn through over the weekend; I hate freezing meat.
Friday night menu - Kerala style Mutton Fry + RandyShack + Nacho Libre
Mutton Fry

Ingredients
Recipe
Mix ingredients 1 through 13 and keep it for 30 minutes or more to marinate. Pressure cook till the first whistle , or cook in a pan with a little bit of hot water. Either way cook till mutton is slightly tender and almost all the water is absorbed. Cut red onions into thin long slices. Heat oil and fry the onions with a little bit of turmeric powder till brown. Keep the fried onions aside. Add some more oil to the pan and fry slit green pepper, garlic pieces and curry leaves. Add cooked mutton to this and fry till brown. Add fried onions and mix well.
This is a great beer based cocktail we had in Cascadia. They made it with Mac & Jack , but Siva made it with Fat Tire, I think any amber ale should work just as well.
Mix lime juice, soda and sugar in a beer glass, top it with beer. Stir well, and garnish with lime piece. This can be made with sprite instead of soda as well. Food and the drink were delicious… Nacho Libre not so good… There were some funny moments though, but definitely not a movie watch while you eat…
